Day Eight - Worship & Rest

The 8:00am breakfast gave us another hour of needed rest. Some are moving a little slower as the long week catches up to us, but all it takes is a visit from one of the Dominican children or young people to get all of us excited and interactive again. One dynamic I haven't spoken to much is the growth in the relationships in the group. While you can't expect 30+ tenagers to always be in harmony, this group comes pretty close. Personally I have become very fond of many in the group, and after watching them work and play all this week, I can say with confidence that you can be very proud. I am honored to call each of them my friend.

A 9:00am worship service started our day with Sunday school immediately after. (by gender and age). It seems that a large Sunday lunch knows no geographic boundries. We had rice with black beans, cabbage, corn fritters, carrot salad, beets, and roasted goat meat...whew. Since Sunday is a traditional day of rest here, the siesta time lasted all afternoon, and we tried to find a shady spot - it was very hot today. At 3:30, we divided into small groups and our Domincan friends took us on tours of the local village where we saw firsthand the harsh living conditions, but yet more examples of a gracious and people.

After a quick shower, we headed to the evening church service where we were able to participate in communion, after which we had a late supper of ham & cheese sandwiches and good old American popcorn. Kara is playing guitar and several of our group are singing along with the Domincans - in Spanish...Our kids seem to have unlimited ways to surprise and impress me,  Once again, I go to bed humbled by their passion, love, and spirits.
