Day Three

Today was all about building new cinder block walls and fencing, cutting down an I-Beam frame for a safer swingset, and putting on Bible school for over 100 children.

I saw many of our kids showing Jesus today. From the Bagley girls working in the hot sun all day buiding walls, to Drew Clark washing a young Dominican's feet and giving him a pair of his shoes, our kids have readily embraced their tasks and have allowed God to use them in wonderful ways.

The heat is intense and we all soon realized the importance of shade whenever possible. No one has shown any signs of adverse affects though, so it appears they are all staying hydrated. The work has kept appetites up and I see very little resistance to the difference in diets. Today's meals included eggs and fruit for breakfast, baked chicken, a mystery medley of vegtables, and some sort of potato mash for lunch, and dinner was small ham and cheese sandwiches. The cold water showers does not seem to be a problem for anyone, and I haven't heard a single complaint about the lack of hair dryers, make-up, or cellphones.

All the kids are tired, but yet always find time to return the love shown by the local people - I am proud to be able to watch them be such awesome witnesses for what Christ calls us to be.

Tomorrow we head to a local home with no running water (collected rain water for every need), no kitchen (small 1 burner propane cooker), and only 3 rooms for 5 people. Our goal is to close in a porch for an additional room and do anything else we can to make them a little more comfortable.

Pray for continued safety and for continued growth in the new and renewed relationships. The pictures do not adequately portay what is happening here, but I think you see some of Jesus' love in the faces of both our kids and of the local people.
